Announcing New Head Coach: Christian Madsen
The program is happy to name Christian Madsen as its next head coach! Coach Madsen has
been the top men’s player on the team, along with being the past president/captain of the
team and has been a major reason the program has flourished. He has taken the lead on
running the annual Bear Bash Tournament, Collegiate Nationals, other tournaments, along with
assisting Hopkins with teaching the Kinesiology course on Fundamentals of Handball. Madsen
is a Presidential Scholar graduate of Missouri State University with a degree in Biology, and a
minor in Chemistry. He has also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). Madsen will be
teaching in the Science Department at Greenwood Laboratory School on the campus of
Missouri State University.
The handball program will no doubt continue its tradition and legacy under the leadership of
Christian Madsen. The program would also like to recognize and thank All-American player
Taylor Bell as its out-of-town tournament and social media coordinator during this transition
and moving forward.
Jeni Hopkins states, “The players of this program are impressive people. They, along with the
assistant coaches and their passion for handball and the family environment that has been
created has kept this program going strong. The foundation that Dr. Burnett laid will continue
to be built upon and as an alumna, and speaking for the Burnett family, we could not be
happier in our choice as the next head coach. Dr. Burnett would be very proud to have Coach Madsen lead the program”.
